I graduated from the University of Sheffield with a 2.1 (Hons.) Zoology degree. Like many both before and after, I fell into the Market Research business almost by accident. In 1999 I joined BMRB International (British Market Research Bureau) on their Data Processing graduate programme. I credit BMRB, the people, and the extensive grad training, for the thorough grounding I received in all things MR. We learnt every aspect of the business beyond our specific roles and I have carried forward that strong belief that understanding of a business process must not begin and end with your indvidual role. The initial grounding I had with DP and then scripting, and the team management opportunities that came about within those roles, saw me gain early interaction and understanding of many of the roles in the MR business. I've been lucky to have been in at the ground floor when online interviewing started to come to the fore.
During the 19 years I've been involved in this business I've been fortunate to have had a great number of different opportunities and to have travelled the world. Whilst I've only worked at three companies if you don't count takeovers and moves into the parent company or subsidiaries thereof, I have had very varied experiences within each of those in terms of my career progression. My CV further outlines those roles but they include training, implementation, project management, operations management, development to name but a few.
My current position is at a small Healthcare research recruitment company called Objective Focus. Healthcare is a unique sector that I've had a lot of experience in. I'm immensely proud of the work I have done within Objective Focus to replace and streamline their business processes, as well as the day to day operational management of the business. More recently I've been designing and developing portal offerings to provide client visibility as well as to simplify the project management and supplier interaction. These portal designs have been enthusiastically received within the business and I'll be providing some further insight and thoughts on portal design and wider operational process in the coming days. However the time is now right for me to start to consider my next move. I've accomplished what I set out to achieve and I will leave Objective Focus in an amicable, managed, and strong position. I look forward to what might be the next challenge.
I want to put the experience I've gained back to good use. I'm really looking for an Operational Management position but my skillset is diverse and I'll remain open to alternative opportunities if I believe that they are a good fit. I have a strong 'can do' attitude and an eye for detail. I expect businesses to have smooth operational process and I have the experience to know what works well and what does not. I am a technophile and tech drives this industry forward at a slower pace than should be accepted. I want to help put that right and create sensible and streamlined process that benefits the business, the employee, and the client. If you think you might have a challenge or a position within your business where this is a good fit then I'd be more than happy to discuss. Check out the contact page here for ways to get hold of me.
